It's sessions like this, that makes me appreciate just how special it is to be trusted to capture such special memories. Little Albie, just one month old had some portraits done with his lovely mum and dad, Millie and Ben. When it comes to newborn sessions, I book out a 3 hour time slot to ensure that there is time for feeds, changes, or crying! No time pressure means everyone is relaxed. As well as this, I send out information about how to prep for the session and how to get your baby settled; however, when it comes to babies, sometimes they just don't settle, as this was the case for Albie. His eyes never shut, and he cried throughout most of the session, and that was alright. I never want to fake the reality of these sessions, sometimes they just don't go to plan and you have to work around the baby.
When it comes to newborn sessions, I never focus on positioning the baby in an unnatural way, or over-processing the images causing them to look airbrushed. Newborns have dry skin, wrinkly features and blotchy skin, why remove all of that. Although Albie cried throughout the session, I focused on capturing the feeds and the cuddles he received from mum and dad, because that's what it's about. Thank you to Millie and Ben for allowing me to capture your sweet boy, it truly is an honour to capture these special moments.
